Common Game

The debate over whether Roblox is better than Minecraft (and vice versa) will rage until the end of time.

Both have their upsides. But ultimately, it really comes down to subjective personal preferences. It's the gaming equivalent of McDonald's versus Burger King.

However, while Minecraft may be the better known of the two outside gaming circles, Roblox edges it for many gamers.

June 28, 2021 - Roblox unveils display names

Rather than being stuck with your username for eternity, Roblox introduced Display Names as unique identifiers.

Players still log in as usual, but they can choose to have a separate Display Name and change it every seven days if they wish.

Display Names are used for a player's profile, avatar, chat, search, and people lists. Those who don't want a Display Name will continue to have their username displayed by default.

More

Roblox claims to be the ultimate virtual multiverse. And they are probably not t● far from the truth with that statement.

You can create customized experiences with friends and reinvent yourself as anything you want to be. The only limitation is imagination.

There is practically an infinite number of unique worlds to explore and become immersed in, along with the global Roblox community.

Regarding the Roblox vs. Minecraft debate, the latter is, on balance, safer for younger kids as they can play alone and have minimal chats with strangers.

However, Roblox is attempting to plug this shortcoming with Parental Controls. The PIN-protected control panel lets parents choose whom their kid can chat with, switch off the chat option altogether, and pre-approve which games their child can play.

If you fancy your hand at creating games, go for Roblox, with its easy-to-learn scripting language.

How to use

Roblox is downloadable from Google Play, Apple's App Store, and the Amazon Appstore.

Android users will need 121 MB of storage space and run a minimum of Android 5.0.

Meanwhile, iOS users must give up 254.4 MB of storage space, which is relatively light for an iOS format game. They also need iOS 9.0 or later.

As is often the case, Google Play and Apple's App Store disagree over the age rating. Google Play's pitches the game as suitable for players aged 7+. The stricter App Store gives Roblox a 12+ age rating.

However, they are in reasonably close agreement over the number of stars the game should receive.

Google Play reviews place Roblox at 4.4 out of five stars based on almost 23 million reviews. Though there are substantially fewer reviews at the App Store (almost six million), Roblox scores a very healthy 4.6 out of five.
